I know it's early but...
...I'm heading to Seattle Labor Day weekend. I've only been there once and without a local to show me the cool spots, so I'm taking suggestions from people more familiar with the place.
Things on my todo list:
- good eats
- record shopping
- touristy crap
- good local (non 'bucks) coffee
- good place for brew
- nice parks
- whatever

i can ask around to friends up there. it's been years since i've gone.
but! the Needle is good and touristy. there's even a semi-cool amusement park next door as i remember it.
Seattle's Best Coffee shops really are. you'll have no trouble finding those and more!
same with beer.
Niki gave me a pretty comprehensive guide to Seattle (compiled from various sources off the indie chicks list).

I need to find my comprehensive guide to NYC that I got from a number of people before I went last time (for future reference).
All the cool kids can't get enough of Capitol Hill, but I'm more of a University District/Green Lake/Wallinford/Fremont sort of gal. More water over that way.
Seattle's Best is okay. Kinda watery. I recommend Diva Espresso. There is one in Wallingford and one in North Seattle. There are probably more, but I forget where.
Hale's Ales in Ballard is a cool pub. Good beer, not so good food. And of course there is Dad Watson's in Fremont, my former home away from home. Brewer's salad is best ever. Hammerhead beer is good. People love the Ruby Stout.
I hear there is a sci-fi museum in the space with the Experience Music Project now. Cool.
Are you going to Bumbershoot? *jealous*
I like the Sonic Boom record stores. There are at least three, and one is all-vinyl. Cellophane Square sometimes lets Harvey Danger's other band play in-stores.
Check out the Ballard locks. Rent some bikes and ride around Gasworks park.
Around Green Lake there's a little divey Mexican restaurant with the best margaritas. And up the street from there is a great little divey tavern called The Little Red Hen that has karaoke some nights.
Niki's going to Bumbershoot. I might too if she can get me in free, otherwise I'll just explore every inch of the city (I'm bringin' the mole skin), which actually sounds funner to me anyways.
Leon, I got you covered for Bumbershoot, but I doubt you'll want to be there every day all day like I have to. I'm working on EMP tix too.

It's really easy to get around Seattle by bus--like amazingly so. Keep your cell on you and you can just call RT whenever you need to figure out how to get to your next destination.
It's cool that Niki's got you covered for Bumbershoot, because it gets really crowded and sometimes you can't get in to see the bands you want. And then you get pissed about spending $50 for the 4-day pass when all you really wanted was to see the kick-off bands on Friday and the finale bands on Monday.

anyone ever notice how rachel ray has this crazy nasaly voice? very manly sometimes. also she has got the best gig in the world. she goes around and eats. lucky!
but hey, have you guys also noticed how she's (in my opinion) less attractive than she used to be? she's all hollywood highlights and cakey makeup now. i think she was prettier before the handlers got to her.
i mean just look at her new book cover. compare that with an older book cover. what have they done to her???
