OK. Maybe not so bad.
(Zelda's update)

Being in denial, and wanting to buy Niki a pizza, I ventured off towards Zelda's once again to see if they were open. Nope. Closed, but at least there was the above note posted out front rather than the cardboard circle as seen earlier.

Maybe they are getting bigger ovens so they can make more pizzas at a time?

My worst case scenario is that they are going to modernize the inside to look like all the other shitty restaurants popping up all over town. Hopefully there won't be any plasma screens or brushed metal decor (and/or valet parking out front)...fingers crossed

Man, you really said it.

By the way, that type of decor you mention, it's a lot like some of the tacky trends that started in the 50's and ran through the 80's. Do you think in 20 years, Ma Jong's will be retro tacky/cool?

To hold you over for the time being...there is a pretty decent Chicago Style pizza place in Old Folsom. I also live (half time) a block away from Zacharys pizza in Berkeley. Let me know if you want me to bring you back a half baked pie.

Are you talking about Chicago Fire in Folsom? They are the closest thing to Zachary's I've had. So yummy!

Zelda's closure has got to be the worst thing for me. I'm having nothing but cravings for their pies.

Oh man. That would be great. I'll keep that in mind.

I've been to Chicago Fire pizza in Folsom, and thought it was very close to Zachary's, but I may have to make a back to back analysis to see for sure ;)

Zelda's is it's own thing and I love it. Niki ate at Gino's East in Chicago and thought the pizza was similar in style to Zelda's, with Zelda's being better.

A certain person I know who lived in Chicago for a very brief time hates on Zelda's because "it's not real Chicago style pizza", but apparantly everything else is better in Chicago too. Whatev.

Ha, I know of whom you speak, Leon... :)
So, like, for a minute there, I thought the world was coming to an end! Thank the pizza heavens the closure is temporary...

It's true that Zelda's is a wackjob freak that originated from Chicago Style Pizza, but isn't really Chicago Style, but that doesn't matter. It's good pizza.

Yeah, Chicago Fire. It is pretty good. I have never been to Zeldas...so I have no idea if it is the same.

Seriously though, my grandma lives up the block from Zacharys, so if you and Niki are craving and I am heading back to Sac...I will pick one up for you!
